CCU International Alumni Share Their Journeys from Student Life to Careers in Taiwan

On November 7, as National Chung Cheng University (CCU) celebrated its 37th anniversary, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) hosted an International Alumni Sharing Session featuring Associate Professor Nguyen Van-Linh, a recipient of the 5th Distinguished Taiwan Alumni Award, and two returning international alumni, Amy Le and Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong. Organized as part of the Ministry of Education's "Professionalization Project of Employment Counseling for International Students in Taiwan Higher Education," the event offered students valuable insights into career opportunities and challenges in Taiwan through the experiences of alumni working in different fields.

CCU President Tsai Shaw-Jenq  attended the event and delivered opening remarks, while the Secretary-General and Prof. Victoria Rau, Vice President for International Affairs, were also in attendance. Prof. Rau opened the session by highlighting Associate Professor Nguyen's distinguished alumni award and introducing the professional backgrounds of the two returning alumni.

Associate Professor Nguyen    Van-Linh, both a CCU alumnus and a current faculty member, shared his journey in a presentation titled "From Student to Professor: Building Your Future in Taiwan." After arriving from Vietnam in 2016 to pursue his Ph.D. at CCU, he graduated in 2019 and continued his academic career as a postdoctoral researcher and assistant professor before being promoted to associate professor in 2026. Reflecting on his experiences, he emphasized the importance of continuous learning, research dedication, and developing Chinese language skills. He also shared how his priorities have evolved as an educator, explaining that he now places great importance on mentoring and caring for his students, whom he regards as members of his own family.

Amy Le, a graduate of CCU's Master's Program in Global Finance, shared her career journey from university to Taiwan's financial industry. After working in the financial technology sector, she joined Cathay United Bank, where she has gained experience in product management and financial services. Drawing on her professional experiences, she encouraged international students to make use of campus resources, build professional networks, and prepare early for Taiwan's recruitment process. She also highlighted the importance of Chinese language proficiency for students seeking employment in Taiwan.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong, who completed both her master's and doctoral degrees at CCU, shared her experiences of studying and building a career in Taiwan. Currently a lecturer in the Department of Finance at Chaoyang University of Technology, she engaged students through a lively Kahoot quiz addressing language barriers, academic challenges, and future career plans. She also introduced the concept of improving by 1% every day, encouraging students to remain persistent and recognize the long-term value of consistent effort.

Students actively participated in the discussions and raised questions about employment and career development in Taiwan. Following the presentations, a tea reception provided further opportunities for students to interact with alumni and exchange experiences in a relaxed atmosphere.

Through alumni sharing sessions and career development activities, CCU's Office of International Affairs continues to connect international students with valuable resources and professional experiences. The OIA will further strengthen its collaboration with alumni and industry partners to support students preparing for careers in Taiwan.
